Instructor: Lindsey Andrews | One-Day | Wednesday | February 25 | 7:00-9:00 PM | 719 N Mangum St, Durham, NC
Ready to dish about Wuthering Heights? Watch the movie, and read an excerpt or the entire novel in advance, then join us to discuss! We’ll share what scholars have had to say about the most debated aspects of the novel, from Heathcliff’s origin and race to Nelly’s unreliable narration to Cathy’s gender bending. We’ll get a handle on some now-canonical analyses of the novel as a critique of both colonialism and Byronic masculinity. And then we’ll dive into what we think about Emerald Fennell’s new interpretation. Does it maintain anything from the original? Is it a betrayal of the novel or the interpretation we need for this current pop-culture moment?
Registration includes one drink and guided discussion in small and large groups.
You are encouraged to read at least the first 3 chapters of the novel in advance, or the entire thing! https://www.gutenberg.org/files/768/768-h/768-h.htm
