Instructor: Juliana Finch | Saturday June 7 | 6 PM until… | 719 N Mangum St, Durham, NC

If you’ve always wanted to explore and understand Shakespeare’s plays but still have nightmare flashbacks to muddling through the text in freshman English, this event is for you! Plays were meant to be performed, not read silently.

Join instructor and recovering actor/director Juliana Finch for a fun, low-stakes table read of A Midsummer Night’s Dream on June 7th. We’ll have a brief intro discussion with some tips from the theater, then grab drinks and divvy up the roles to read out loud together.* After each act, we’ll do a quick breakdown of the scenes so everyone can follow along.

No acting experience or Shakespearean expertise necessary. You’ll be gently guided by folks who have performed these plays professionally (and maybe made courageous with help from the bar!)

Midsummer follows our sets of lovers through mishaps, reunions, shapeshifting, and a generally terrible camping trip. Come join us for a fun night exploring why “the course of love never did run smooth.”

*Those who don’t wish to read a role are still encouraged to attend and listen!

When you attend, please bring a way to read along. We recommend this free online option: https://shakespeare.mit.edu/midsummer/index.html or the Folger or Signet versions if you prefer to purchase / borrow a copy.

The sign-up form is standard for all of our classes. If any fields are not applicable to you or this class, please put “N/A.”
