Study Abroad: Barcelona and Madrid, Spain (4/11/27-4/18/27)
In order to register, you must fill out the pre-registration form.
Registration is open for Night School Bar students. At least one person per room must have taken a previous class–this includes a one-day class or workshop–in order to register at this time.
Barcelona and Madrid, Spain’s two largest cities, are full of striking architecture, unbeatable food and wine, lively barrios, and rich histories of art, literature, music, and politics. These two cities share the Iberian Peninsula, but each has its own distinct character, history, and regional identity. Join Night School Bar as we make our way from the Gothic coastal city of Barcelona to the iconic capital of Madrid. We are thrilled to invite former and current Night School Bar students (age 21+) to explore the cultural depths of Spain this April.
From Don Quijote and Salvador Dali to whimsical architecture and anarchist uprisings, we’ll explore the most ancient parts of the country, its artistic innovations, and its fraught–and often inspiring–political history. We will walk the roads that housed the Spanish Civil War, learn about the autonomous tradition of Catalonia, and explore the fractured landscape of the post-dictatorship era. We’ll see the baroque paintings of the Prado as well as some of the 20th century’s most innovative art and architecture, including the perennially under-construction Sagrada Familia and Picasso’s Guernica. And we’ll follow it all up with tapas and wine. You’ll also have plenty of free time to explore on your own.
The trip will be facilitated by Night School Bar instructors who will offer opportunities to study, discuss, and process what you learn. Knowledge of Spanish is not necessary.
