Cut Up: A Generative Workshop for Writing with Images

from $0.00

**This course is in-person only. There is no virtual component. Participants must be age 21+

Sliding Scale: $0-$50

Instructor: Lindsey Andrews | Thursdays April 25 and May 2 | 8:00 – 10:00 PM ET | 719 N Mangum St, Durham, NC

Are you a writer or visual artist interested in exploring what the combination of words and images can do? Or are you just curious about ways to activate your creativity? This two-session class offers a chance engage in experiments with words and images to tell personal, political, and even fantastical stories, from the most intimate memoir to the most outrageous manifesto. In the first week, we’ll learn about techniques such as cut-ups and parataxis by watching and discussing Chris Marker’s 1962 short film La Jetée as well as examples by Claudia Rankine and William Burroughs. You’ll also be offered a series of prompts to create your own text-image combinations. In the second week, we’ll come back to share our work with others and give and get feedback in a supportive environment! No experience necessary. Sign up in advance or register on site. Grab drinks or get signed up from 8-8:15. We’ll get started at 8:15.
