Recently, technofeudalism has become a popular concept to describe how our global society has changed dramatically over the last 40 years of unregulated technological gambits. But what does technofeudalism actually mean? How did the concept emerge? What does it mean to categorize our contemporary digital society as feudal rather than capitalist? Part lecture and part discussion, this seminar invites students to explore these questions and will provide a nuanced analysis of the confluence of Big Tech and global capital. Students will walk away with deeper media literacy and additional tools to assess the digital world.
