Popular books, elevated discussions: Aisling Rawle’s The CompoundSaturday | August 1 | 5:30-7:00 PM | 719 N Mangum St, Durham, NC

It’s everywhere on everyone’s list of books you should read right now. Join us for a one-night discussion of Aisling Rawle’s The Compound, billed as “Love Island meets the Hunger Games.” Together we’ll explore the drive for reality TV, escapism, consumerism, climate collapse, and an increasing apocalyptic vision of our future. But in a fun way.

Top Shelf Book Club offers an elevated take on the traditional book club by bringing in critical tools and expert analyses to drive the discussion. You are encouraged to read the novel in advance. In the meeting, we’ll share insights from expert cultural analysts and literary experts as we dive deep into what is fascinating the popular imagination right now. Even if you aren’t able to read the book in advance, you can check out a review and come chat!

This is an opportunity to meet like-minded folks and dish about a popular novel and culture phenomena with new friends. Night School will provide academic insights and guided questions to help you go deeper in understanding our present moment.
