Join us for a night studying one of Mexico's most electrifying new voices. Longlisted for the 2025 International Booker Prize and winner of a 2024 English PEN Award for translation, Dahlia de la Cerda's Reservoir Bitches gives voice to thirteen Mexican women—cartel heiresses, transfemicide victims, faux-Indigenous socialites, spinster seamstresses—who refuse to be reduced to victims or stereotypes. Told in bold, unapologetic voices, these linked stories fuse dark humor with unflinching social critique.

No advanced reading required (although you're welcome to read the collection in advance if you'd like)! In the session, we'll focus on one or two stories from the collection, with time to read together before digging in. The instructor will share key themes, cultural and historical context, and a few critical lenses for approaching de la Cerda's work. Then you'll participate in guided small-group and full-group discussion to build your own interpretations of this fierce, furious, urgent book.
