The Right to the City: Discussion with Nate Baker [Durham, NC]

$0.00
sold out

Discussant: Durham City Council Member Nate Baker

The Right to the City | Friday September 27 | 6:30-8:00 PM ET | 719 N Mangum St., Durham, NC

We will be discussing David Harvey's concept of "the right to the city," as part of a larger inquiry into how to imagine a just future for the city of Durham, NC. The purpose of this teach-in is to expose us to alternative ways of thinking, and give us new language and concepts for talking about zoning, development, and the city as a public right, prioritizing communal good over profit maximization.

Participants are encouraged to read Harvey's "The Right to the City" in advance of the meeting. Further optional reading include: Samuel Stein's "The Zone Defense," and David Madden and Peter Marcuse's book, In Defense of Housing: The Politics of Crisis.

—

Space is limited, so advanced registration is required. This is a one-time, synchronous opportunity to join us and learn in community. It will not be recorded.
